History: In 1959 the National Center of Epidemiology was charged by the Minister of Health to provide vaccinations for international travelers. That same year the center vas authorized by the WHO to give yellow fever vaccination as well. In the beginning 3000-4000 vaccinations were done yearly, most commonly against yellow fever, smallpox, typhoid, cholera+ E.coli and meningococcus.
Present: Today travelling occurs in a wide variety of fashions, from backpacking to luxury holidays, from pilgrimages to Ganges (India) or rescuing wild animals in remote jungle areas. The activity of our Vaccination Center is very complex.
The work involves:
More than 25 vaccines are available at the center against 15 infectious diseases that could be imported from other countries. In 2002 more than 7400 patients were consulted and more than 15,000 vaccines were given.
The diseases which are vaccine preventable for traveler in Hungary are the following:
- Yellow fewer
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Tetanus
- Diphtheria
- Meningococcus ACYW135
- Poliomyelitis
- Measles (MMR)
- Rabies
- Tick-born encephalitis
- Varicella
- Influenza
- Typhoid
- Pneumococcus
- E.Coli
Those traveling into Hungary from other countries are also welcome, since the doctors, nurses and caregivers speak various languages.
Important information: Patients are charged consultation fees as well as vaccine fees. Prices range from 3.000 HUF- 16.000 HUF/ vaccine. Hungarian currency is acceptable only.
The downloadable questionnaire is required from each patient prior to the consultation, and is available in the waiting room as well.
